Hīoi -- New Zealand mint (Mentha Cunninghamii)

It often grows more lushly than this, hugging the ground, and is recognisable by its small leaves (the size of a nail-biter's little fingernail or smaller) which have a mild mint taste with a faint petroleum note. The stems are un-aromatic.

Lavenders (Lavandula species)

Of the various species of lavender, the one New Zealanders love to grow the most is French lavender -- Lavandula dentata -- recognisable by its little tooth-edged leaves.
